If 2023 was the year the world discovered the LED sphere — thanks to the $2.3 billion MSG Sphere in Las Vegas — then 2026 is the year spherical displays went mainstream.
From a 54-meter dome in rural China to a 5-meter interactive sphere at a World Cup fan festival in Dallas, spherical LED screens are appearing everywhere. And the numbers back it up.
According to Omdia's latest LED Video Displays Market Tracker, global LED video display shipments grew 0.6% year-over-year in Q1 2026. While overall revenue declined 2.3% — the first contraction since 2022 — one category is defying the trend: LED spherical screens are emerging as a standout category within creative displays.
What's driving this boom? Three major developments.
1. China Is Building Spheres at Scale
The most striking evidence comes from China, where multiple spherical venues are under construction or recently completed.
The Tiangong Nova in Qianjiang, Hubei — a city of nearly one million people — opened in June 2026. Standing 46.5 meters tall with a 54-meter diameter dome, the venue features a 7,500-square-meter curved LED exterior display with 55mm pixel pitch, and a 3,200-square-meter interior LED screen with 3.9mm pixel pitch supporting 16K ultra-high-definition visuals. The venue has commissioned original 16K films from Oscar-winning director Ang Lee.
Meanwhile, Shanghai's West Bund Starry Sky 360° spherical venue is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, with a budget of 1.2 billion yuan (approximately $177 million). A third project — the Guangzhou Pearl Spherical Giant Screen — will feature a 66-meter-high, 88-meter-diameter LED sphere with 5,000-person capacity.
2. Spherical Displays Are Becoming Accessible for Events
It's not just billion-dollar mega-projects. Spherical displays are scaling down.
At the 2026 World Cup Fan Festival in Dallas, a 5-meter interactive LED sphere featuring approximately 3.7 million pixels became one of the event's most popular attractions. Fans could scan a QR code, upload a photo, and watch their image appear on the sphere in near real-time. The sphere weighed approximately 13,000 pounds and used 3.9mm outdoor LED technology.
This is the democratization of spherical display technology — from $2.3 billion landmarks to deployable event installations.
3. Creative Displays Are Driving Market Growth
Beyond spheres, the broader creative LED display market is expanding rapidly. The global creative LED display market is projected to grow from $1.879 billion in 2025 to $3.654 billion in 2032, at a CAGR of 10.0%. Transparent LED displays alone are projected to exceed $320 million in 2026.
Omdia notes that growth is particularly strong in the 5.00–9.99mm pixel pitch category — which grew 16.1% year-over-year — as well as the sub-1mm category, which grew 11.6%. This reflects a market shift toward both large-format creative installations and ultra-fine-pitch premium applications.

What This Means for Buyers
For brands, retailers, and event producers considering a spherical LED display, the timing has never been better:
Technology is proven. Major venues and events have validated spherical display performance at scale.
Costs are declining. Modular designs and improved manufacturing efficiency are making spheres more accessible.
Content ecosystems are maturing. More creators are developing expertise in 360° content production.
Demand is accelerating. Spherical displays are becoming a competitive differentiator for venues and brands.
The Bottom Line
The spherical LED display market is no longer a novelty — it's a growth category backed by real data, real installations, and real commercial demand. From 54-meter domes to 5-meter event spheres, the format is proving its versatility and impact.
Whether you're planning a landmark installation or a temporary event activation, spherical LED technology is worth serious consideration.
